University Libraries is open Monday through Sunday during the academic year. See our hours of operation here.

  • Masks are optional in Bierce Library per the University's policy.
  • Patrons who request library materials will be able to pick up their requests from the Service Desk or through our curbside delivery and home delivery services.
  • Students, staff, and faculty can now request KN95 masks online, with curbside pickup available outside of Bierce Library. To schedule a pickup, please use this link. You can also obtain KN95 and surgical masks at the Bierce Library Service Desk.
  • Students, faculty, and staff may book study rooms for up to four hours per day. Study rooms on the 3rd Floor are quiet, individual study only.

Faculty Teaching Courses

  • For faculty teaching courses, Librarians are available by appointment and the Design and Development team are available through our Keep Teaching Community in Brightspace.
  • In the Keep Teaching Community on Brightspace, you will find all recordings from our training sessions, a wide variety of handouts, a developing list of FAQs, and most important, discussion forums. Please post your questions to the Discussion forum and we will answer your question as soon as possible.
  • Equipment is available for faculty to checkout from Audio/Visual Services, located in Bierce Library.

Requesting Materials by Appointment

UA faculty, staff, and students can request Akron-owned library materials online and retrieve them by appointment from Bierce Library. Requestable material includes the general collections, Test Prep, Curriculum Center, and Media. 

  • University Library books can be requested through the library catalog: https://library.uakron.edu/.
  • Students can come to Bierce Library during operating hours and check out Technology Equipment.

The requested material can either be mailed to a home address, retrieved from Bierce Library’s lobby, or by appointment curbside pickup. MediaTech items cannot be mailed. Library patrons will receive a direct email about these retrieval procedures.

Items requested through curbside pickup or home delivery can be returned in the library's return drop boxes outside the building or brought to the Service Desk on the 1st floor.
