MakerStudio Workshop - Introduction to Sewing

Where: MakerStudio, Room 61 (ground floor of Bierce Library)
When: Wednesday, April 24 from 12-4pm

Learn the basics of hand sewing and sewing machine technique. This workshop will cover needle threading, button sewing, hand stitching, clothing alterations, and how to use a sewing machine. Feel free to bring any clothes that need alterations. For more information contact the Makerstudio at 3dprinting@uakron.edu.

Pre-Finals Week Activities

Enjoy stress-relieving activities and snacks in Bierce Library during pre-finals week. The activities are free for students, staff, and faculty and are in Bierce Library's lobby (unless otherwise noted).

All Week (April 29 through May 3)

In partnership with Zip Assist, Bierce Library will have "Self-Care Book Bundles" available to checkout to help students de-stress before finals. The bundles include books on self-care and mental well-being, tea bags, and stickers. Students can enjoy the books through summer and return them at the beginning of fall semester. The bundles will be in the STEAM Lounge and must be checked out at the Service Desk.

Monday, April 29

• 5:30pm to 6:30pm – Library Yoga with Yoga Squared, Room 279
  • Nikki from Yoga Squared is leading a Vinyasa Yoga Flow in Bierce Library, Room 279. All levels of experience are welcomed and please bring your own yoga mat or blanket.
  • Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcomed. RSVP here.
  • Yogis will receive a free class voucher to Yoga Squared as a thank you for attending.

  • Celebrate your upcoming graduation by decorating and personalizing your grad cap!
  • Stop by the MakerStudio (ground floor of Bierce Library) between 10am-3p to utilize the crafting stations.
  • Supplies and decorations are provided (including a Circut), but feel free to bring additional materials you wish to use.

Wings & Words: The Rhodes Collection of Birds and the Belcher Bird Library

Discover the rich avian heritage at The University of Akron (UA) with the convergence of two remarkable collections –once esteemed as Ohio’s most valuable collections— in the exhibit, Wings & Words: The Rhodes Collection of Birds and the Belcher Bird Library.

Both ornithology collections were donated to The University of Akron by prominent Akronites in 1904 and a century later in 1994. Displayed together for the first time, the Rhodes Collection of Birds and Belcher Bird Library celebrate the beauty and significance of natural history preservation and education. Wings & Words invites visitors to appreciate science, literature, and our feathered friends by visiting the exhibit on the ground floor of Bierce Library by the MakerStudio. Guests are welcome to explore the exhibit during Bierce Library’s open hours and visit the accompanying Exhibit Guide.
