Recordings from the School of Music

This guide describes how to access recordings made by the School of Music since 1974.

LISTENING TO RECORDINGS

You may visit Archives and Special Collections to listen to any of the available recordings.  They have the equipment necessary for playback of reel-to-reel tapes, DAT cassettes, CDs and DVDs, as well as online files.

Because of the fragile nature of many of the older tapes, it is Archives and Special Collections policy to digitize the reel-to-reel and DAT cassettes before the requestor can listen to the recording.  This may increase the wait time depending on how fragile the tape is.  Be aware that tape recordings often suffer from a condition called 'print-through' which can adversely affect the sound quality; unfortunately, this is an irreversible condition.

To make listening arrangements, contact Archives and Special Collections at archives@uakron.edu (330-972-7670).

REQUESTING COPIES OF RECORDINGS

In some cases, you may be able to request a copy of a recording.  Be aware that this option is often not available, due to copyright restrictions.  Make requests to Archives and Special Collections at archives@uakron.edu (330-972-7670).
