Methods for in-sourcing authority control with MarcEdit, SQL, and regular expressionsThis is a report on a developing method to automate authority control in-house (that is, without an outside vendor), especially for batch-loaded bibliographic records for electronic resources. A SQL query of the Innovative Sierra database retrieves entries from the “Headings used for the first time” report. These entries are then processed with some regular expression substitutions to create a list of terms suitable for batch searching in the OCLC Connexion client. Two approaches to this problem are described in detail and results compared. A similar method for using the “Unauthorized headings” report from the SirsiDynix Symphony ILS is also described.
