Bierce Library Weekday Open and Close Procedures

Bierce Library Weekday Opening 

  1. Turn on lights at Service Desk, Laptop Desk, STEAM Lounge 

  1. Open student entry doors at front entrance; put ‘staff entry only’ sign on door 

  1. Open safe room:  

  1. Open safe: Top Safe Door: C284072#         Bottom Safe Door:  C438948# 

  1. Remove cash register drawer 

  2. Run Point of Sale system reports 

  3. Complete deposit and enter in Cashnet, put finished documents in safe room 

  1. Put cash register drawer in cash register 

  1. Unlock key cabinet at service desk. Key to key cabinet is located with the library front door key in the black cabinet behind the service desk 

  1. Turn on front desk PCs. Login: circulationsa1   Password: pineapple1 

  1. Open Sierra. Login: bstcir    password: blast 

  1. Open LibCal and check curbside delivery schedule:  

  • Log into LibApps and select LibCal 

  • Select Spaces on the top navigation bar 

  • Select Curbside Pickup on the Spaces in Location dropdown at the top of the page 

  • Select Booking Grid & Availability and the blue Go button to view appointments for the day 

  1. Direct student assistants to:  

  • Clock in (behind laptop desk) 

  • Turn on TVs in café 

  • Unlock laptop desk  

  • Empty two book drops (outside front door, loading dock entrance) 

  • Check in items from book drops 

  • Sanitize workstations, copiers, printers, service desk 

  • Check Aunt Flow dispensers and Mother's Room on Fridays 

  • Check public printers and copiers  

  1. Clear all floors, study rooms, and classrooms of books/periodicals. Check these items in and move to temp shelving 

  1. Run notices for local and OhioLINK requests 

  1. Unlock front door at opening time and remove open time signage 

  1. Direct students to pull books at Bierce, complete local hold requests and take OhioLINK requests to room 361 

  1. Direct a student to pull books at Science. All Science pulls should be left in the blue bin at the science library 

  1. Check When to Work so student workers can be directed to their assigned workspace (Ex. OhioLINK) 

 

Bierce Library Weekday Closing 

  1. 15 minutes before close, send students to walk around letting people know the building will be closing 

  1. Lock up laptop desk  

  1. 5-10 minutes before closing, lock interior and exterior front doors 

  1. Turn off TVs in café area 

  1. Take returned books to temp shelving 

  1. 5 minutes before closing, clear floors. Students should not leave until all people are out of the building 

  1. Check classroom 61 in Makerstudio and lock Makerstudio 

  1. Lock key cabinet at Service Desk and put key back in black cabinet behind service desk 

  1. Put cash drawer away in safe and make sure safe is closed 

  1. Lock and close safe room after student workers remove their belongings 

  1. Turn off lights at the Service Desk, laptop desk, and STEAM Lounge 

  1. Turn off Service Desk monitors. No need to turn off PCs 

  1. Direct students to clock out (behind laptop desk) 

  1. After building is cleared, double check all front doors to make sure they are locked and latched. 

Emergencies

The emergency contact and action list are attached to the side of the black shelving unit behind the Service Desk. Emergency supplies to protect the collection from water leaks are in the unlocked closet near the back entrance of the Dean’s suite. 

Door Alarms

 All exterior doors except the front and rear entrances have audible alarm systems. These alarm systems should be turned off at the source with your master key. The alarm panel in the STEAM Lounge also has an audible alarm that should be silenced.
