The Wayne College Library works in concert with Wayne College’s academic community (Departments, Committees, Faculty, and Staff) to offer instructional services and resources in support of the Wayne College Information Literacy Mission. The Library provides a program of information literacy workshops and assignment-specific bibliographic instruction in support of the following General Education Learning Outcome:

The Wayne College Library employs diverse teaching strategies and assesses student achievement of measurable student learning outcomes tied to the above performance indicators. Additional assessment of information literacy outcomes and related discipline-based outcomes is performed by Faculty.
The Library’s information literacy instruction program serves the students, faculty and staff of Wayne College. The Library staff are committed to collaborating with colleagues at Wayne College and The University of Akron Libraries to coordinate efforts to integrate information literacy into academic programs.
The Library staff continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the program. The Library staff is committed to keep current on national information literacy trends and share relevant information with the College’s academic community.
In support of The University of Akron Wayne College’s mission to be an educational and cultural hub for Wayne County and the surrounding region, the College strives to ensure that students completing their course of study at Wayne College will demonstrate information literacy.
Information literacy is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning. In 2016 the Wayne College Library adopted ACRL's Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. Because students completing coursework at Wayne College are typically completing technical associate degrees or the first two years of a Bachelor's degree, the information literacy program will focus on the novice level of the following six frames (presented in alphabetical order):
As students progress in their coursework beyond Wayne College they will have an information literacy foundation to build upon. If students do not pursue additional education beyond Wayne College they will have the basic skills needed to be successful lifelong learners.
