Information on the University Libraries various open access publishing deals and how to use them

Overview

University Libraries has agreements with various publishers that allow University of Akron researchers to publish their research as open access. This free service allows researchers to make research open access while avoiding the expensive standard article processing charges.

Where and How

Below is the list of publishers that currently partner with University Libraries for open access publishing. Click on the name of the publisher to learn how to submit your research as open access.

Royal Society of Chemistry

Applies to all RSC's journals. Here is a list of RSC journals.

Elsevier

Most hybrid open access journals are eligible, but there are some exclusions, including Cell Press and Lancet titles. There is an annual maximum number of articles that can be covered by this deal. When the limit is reached the option to have the article processing charge (APC) covered by the institution will no longer display. 

Wiley

Applies to Wiley's Hybrid Open Access Journals. For information on how to publish an article on Wiley use Wiley's generic journal publishing tool. Springer

Applies to Springer's hybrid OA journals. For more information on how to publish open access articles see Springer's OA author guide.

IOP (Institute of Physics)

Applies to most hybrid and gold open access journals. You can use IOP's Journal Finder tool to see what journals apply. For more information, including the step by step workflow for submitting an article, watch the IOP OA Webinar.

Cambridge

Company of Biologists

Applies to five journals:

  • Development
  • Journal of Cell Science
  • Journal of Experimental Biology
  • Biology Open
  • Disease Models & Mechanisms

OA published research through these deals will usually be covered by the CC-BY License.
