This LibGuide was created to compliment Beyond the Picket Fence: The Places and Spaces We Call Home, an exhibit created and hosted by the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology at The University of Akron. Organized following the organization of the exhibit, this LibGuide highlights books and archival collections that are featured in the exhibit as well as additional, related readings.
Beyond the Picket Fence explores the concept of home in all its definitions and asks us to consider the variety of elements that let us know when we have found home. From Lillian Gilbreth's analysis of what makes a home efficient to David Boder's interviews with people displaced from home, the exhibit brings together artifacts from the collections of the Archives of the History of American Psychology and the Institute for Human Science and Culture.

Exhibit is open now through April 2024 at the National Museum of Psychology
The Drs. Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings Center for the History of Psychology, located at The University of Akron, collects, preserves, provides access to, and interprets the historical record of psychology and related human sciences. The Center houses the Archives of the History of American Psychology, the National Museum of Psychology and the Institute for Human Science and Culture. The Museum and Institute Galleries are open to the public Tuesday through Saturday and offer free admission to students, faculty, and staff at The University of Akron.
