Requesting a UA Book

Instructions for requesting a book from the University of Akron.

  1. Make sure you are logged into your library account. See the How to Log In tutorial for how to do this.

  2. You can filter your search to books by selecting the 'Books' button below the search box.

  3. Select the dropdown on the right-hand side of the search box and choose "Library Catalog" to search for books owned by the University of Akron Libraries.

  4. Search for the book you want.
  5. Select the title to see the record.

  6. Find the request section of the record view and select 'Request'.

  7. Select a pick-up location from the dropdown. This is where you will pick up the book once the request is ready.

  8. It is not required to put in anything for terms of use but it will often show how long the books can be initially checked out for before they would need to be renewed.

  9. You can also select a Pickup Date. This is the date where if the library is not able to fulfill your request by this time we should cancel the request instead of fulfilling it.
  10. Select "Send Request" to submit your request. You should receive a message saying your request was successfully submitted. You will receive an email once the book is ready to pickup.

Requesting a book from OhioLINK

From the OhioLINK Search Profile

Before you begin make sure that you are signed into your account. For help signing in please view our How to login tutorial.

  1. Select the 'OhioLINK Search' profile from the search bar menu and search for a book. To learn more about search profiles visit our tutorial How to use Search Profiles.

  3. Click on the title to open the record view and scroll to the "Get it from OhioLINK or other Libraries section."

  4. In this section, click on the "Get It" button under "Get a Physical Copy".

  5. A request form will appear. The only field that needs filled in is the pickup location.

  6. In this example we will choose Bierce Library for the pickup location.

  7. Click Send to submit the request. You will receive an e-mail when the book arrives at your chosen pickup location, usually in seven days if the book is coming from another Ohio institution. If you don't see an estimated time then it might take longer for the book to arrive.

Alternate Method

  1. Search for the book in the "Everything" search profile.
  2. Click on the link that says "Click here to search Beyond the University of Akron Library".
  3. The search results that display now include items not owned by University of Akron Libraries but are available for patrons to request from other institutions.
