Writing a Structured Abstract
An abstract is a summary of the essential elements in your research project. At minimum, include these sections in your structured abstract: Objective, Methods, Results and Conclusion. Use the questions below to guide you in answering these questions in your abstract:

  • What is your project? (i.e. the main question or problem)
  • How did you get the results?
  • What are the results?
  • Why the results were significant, novel, correct or good?
  • What is your conclusion?

A few tips about writing your structured abstract:

  • Don’t define terminology, give background information or talk about the work of others.
  • Don’t state your motivation.
Poster sessions are a great way for people to share their research and projects with their peers, faculty family, friends and other members of the UA community. There are many advantages to presenting a poster at a symposium:
  • You can engage with your peers in one-on-one conversations
  • Your presentation can be more conversational and flexible than a traditional paper presentation or an oral presentation.
  • It’s a great medium for presenting the early stages of your research.
  • You can obtain feedback on your project before writing and submitting your honors thesis, etc.
  • Add your symposium poster presentation on your resume.
