Recordings from the School of Music

This guide describes how to access recordings made by the School of Music since 1974.

RECORDING FORMATS

The School of Music (formerly the Department of Music) has been recording performances since 1974.  The earliest audio recordings (through July 1992) were primarily on 7" reel-to-reel tapes.  DAT cassettes were used from 1992 through October 2004.  Compact discs were occasionally used as early as 2001 and became the exclusive audio format in 2004.  Beginning in 2004, many performances were also video-recorded and stored on DVDs, so that the majority of performances are available in two media.  In the fall of 2014, the School of Music stopped creating tangible versions of their recordings, instead storing electronic versions of audio and video recordings online only.
