Collaborative Instruction Module: Innovative approaches to IL instruction

The Right Question Institute: The Question Formulation Technique

The Right Question Institute, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, began as a grant-funded endeavor to teach parents of students in Lawrence, MA., how to ask questions of their children's teachers.  The brain child of Dan Rothstein and Luz Santana, the RQI developed over time into a robust, non-profit resource invested in teaching people from all walks of life how to "ask the right questions" in different situations.  They have honed the Question Formulation Technique over 20 years, with feedback from around the world on its implementation, strengths, challenges, and the like. The QFT has been used in a great variety of ways, from children as young as elementary school age, to medical students and, critically, those seeking clearer responses from social service organizations.
