Evaluating Websites and Blogs (Law Library)

Currency

With legal information currency is critical.

Find the date on the web site.  The date displaying on a web page is not always the date of the content.  Sometimes this is automatically generated by HTML code.

Does the language near the date indicate what the date represents?

When was the content last updated?

Can the information on the site be verified in another source?

Are the links current or updated regularly?  How many dead links are on the page?  Look for broken links and other signs of neglect.

For blogs, how often are there posts?

How many bloggers submit content to the blog?  Many people posting to the blog helps keep the content fresh.
