Outlining & Research Organization Apps Purchased by the Library

The Law Library buys the following apps which law students, faculty and staff can use for organizing research, notetaking and outlining for class: These two products use AI to automatically generate outlines from research and notes you have gathered into the platform.

Powernotes - Create an account with your university email address.

Liquidtext - Click on the link, download the app, then login with the information that was emailed to you.

Legal Writing Software

Upon uploading your document, legal writing software can help you:

Create a table of authorities
Check quotes
Check citations (Shepardize or Keycite all the citations in a document at once)
Format citations
Make suggestions for cases you may have missed

Lexis

Lexis+ Brief Analysis
Upload a document and Lexis will generate case recommendations, similar briefs and a Shepards analysis.
Lexis for Microsoft Office
Shepardizing, quote checking, creating a table of authorities. Click Download Lexis for Microsoft Office to get started.
Shepard's Briefcheck (Lexis)
Upload a document and Briefcheck checks quotes for accuracy, pulls all the documents cited.
Shepard's Brieflink (via Lexis)
Upload a brief or other document (in Word format) and Brieflink: Inserts Lexis links to the citations in the uploaded document (courts are encouraging this, also convenient for a law firm memo, or you can upload opposing counsel's brief to easily access the cited documents.) It also can insert Shepard's links and signal indicators.

Westlaw

Westlaw Quick Check
Upload your brief and the software will inform you of pertinent cases you may have missed by looking at the citations in the document you upload. Incorporates AI and machine learning. Leverages key numbers, keycite, statute annotations, secondary sources and customer usage.
Westlaw Drafting Assistant
Upload a document to: Insert a table of authorities, check quotes, and keycite all the cases.

Writing Apps

Grammarly App
Checks grammar, spelling. Free version available - a browser add-on. Subscription version includes vocabulary enhancement and other features.
Word Rake
Looks for better word choices. A Word add-on. Costs over $100 per year.
