Bierce Library

Welcome to your main campus library! This guide is designed to educate UA students about the library and its resources.

Some information about the Bierce Library:

  • The library is named for Lucius Verus Bierce, lawyer, military general, state senator, and five-term mayor of Akron.
  • The nucleus of the library was established around 1872 with many volumes donated from Bierce's personal book collection. Our collection now includes nearly 800,000 physical items as well as more than 330 research databases with access to millions of journal articles, ebooks, and streaming videos.
  • The current building opened in 1972. It was renovated most recently in 2011.
  • Inside you'll find 4 floors with lots of group and private study space, computer workstations including PCs and Macs, as well as a Starbucks and Makerstudio.
