FBI Crime Data Explorer
An interactive data tool, based on NIBRS data. Create visualizations, download data in .csv format, contains large data files. Can limit by agencies such as police departments, sheriffs, colleges, etc., from counties within the state. (For purposes of the class you may be able to use the stats from the largest arresting agency to estimate data for the county, but there are ways to get agency data charts by state, see below. To see which agencies have the largest number of arrests for a certain offense, see NIBR table for Offense Type by Agency.)
1. Explore by location and dataset: (from the main page). Limit by state or agency and offense to see offender and victim characteristics, location of crime, victim's relationship to offender, type of weapon involved, offense linked to another offense.
2. LEOKA - Law enforcement officers killed and assaulted
3. Data discovery tool - Get data for up to 10 agencies at once, and up to 3 crimes at once (limited choices of crimes). Pick location and desired years.
4. Documents & Downloads - datasets - usually in csv files and can open in Excel, NIBRS tables (State tables, offenses by agency available - For (numbers of) Offense Type by Agency use the NIBRS table and select incidents and the state.)
