Alert:
1. Create via Law360.com
2. Create via LAW 360 on LEXIS:
Click on one of the databases listed on the Law 360 page, such as Law360 Legal News, Law360 Tax Authority, Law360 Intellectual Property, etc. To the right of the name of the source (at the top), click on the three dots, and select Get All Documents for this Source. Then click on the bell icon in the top middle to get alerts for new content from the source.


Email Alerts for Westlaw Daily Briefings and other Westlaw Sources
You can pick almost any source on Westlaw and set up an alert for new content using this process
1. Once logged into Westlaw, click on Notifications (top right)>Alerts>Click on the Box that says "Create Alert" (top left)>Select Publication Alert.
2. Name your Alert.
3. Then, under Select Content, go to Secondary Sources>Legal Newspapers & Newsletters>Westlaw Daily Briefings>select topic of interest
4. Then continue to set up the alert. You do NOT need to enter any search terms.

Westlaw alerts -
Instructions on setting up an alert – use the same instructions as for Westlaw, Daily Briefings: click on Notifications in the top right to get started, then pick publications alert, when you Select Content, search for the name of the source.
Here are some general legal news sources you can set up alerts for:
SmartCILP and Custom Current Contents: SmartCILP is a customized email service for Current Index to Legal Periodicals, with direct links to articles in HeinOnline, when available. SmartCILP sends you emails listing recently published law review articles on the topics of your choosing.
To sign up for SmartCILP, click on the link above and then click on the tab on the right that says "Create New SmartCILP User".
To edit your SmartCILP preferences, go to HeinOnline, log in and then click on the link in the upper right that says "___'s Profile". From there, you can pick Manage SmartCILP Notifications.

Setting up an Alert will send you emails any time there is a new case or other new document meeting your search criteria.
Lexis
To set up an email alert: After you run a search, click on the bell icon near the top, to the right of your search statement. upper right
To check or change your alerts: Click on the bell icon in black bar in the upper right.

Westlaw
- To create an alert, after you run a search, click on the bell icon on the right, near the top
- To edit your existing alerts, click on Notifications on the right at the very top

Circuit Splits
Simple search query in a case law database:
(circuit* /s split*) AND yourtopic court or circuit /s split & da(aft 1/2025)
circuit w/2 split! or disagree!
Advance search query in a case law database:
(conflict! or split! or division or divide! or "different conclusions") /10 (authority or preceden! or "lower court" or circuit or "state supreme court") and yourtopic
If you are looking for circuit splits that might be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court, then search in a database of Federal Circuit Court cases. HOWEVER, you might want to include federal district court cases too in case they mention a split.
