Signup for a Community Library Card

A community patron card is needed for alumni and community members to use certain library services. To acquire a library card:

  1. Go to the Service Desk on the first floor of the library.
  2. Request a community patron card and provide a photo ID (e.g. a driver's license).
  3. Fill out a form.
  4. Start using library services!

List of Services

  • Borrow Books - Signup for a Library card to checkout books from UA and across academic libraries in Ohio. Go to our borrowing policies page to see how long you can check out books for.
  • Use Computers, Printers, Scanners, and Copiers - To use a public computer Requires signing up for a library card and using that information to login. Public computers are located to the left as soon as you walk into the library. To use printers and copiers you will need to request a guest card at the Service Desk and add money to that card (Printing costs $0.05 per page for black and white and $0.10 per page for color printing).
  • Archives and Special Collections - Learn about UA's and Akron's history and research rare and historic materials.
  • Wifi via Roo-Guest - This is a public wifi network that has increased security restrictions. UA students, staff, and faculty should use eduroam.
  • Use Electronic Resources - Using a public computer at the library will allow to you use the majority (but not all) of the library's electronic resources. Use ZipSearch to find books, ebooks, journal articles, etc. And our A-Z List of Databases to see databases the library provides access to. Note: You will not be able to access our electronic resources if connected to Roo-Guest. You need to use a public computer.
  • Library Space - Come in whenever the library is open (see the library's hours) and find a place to sit down and relax or focus on your work.
