There are a number of avenues you can take to find ebooks in the library collection. The following are some suggestions of the most common and useful places to look. Most of our ebooks should be discoverable by searching in the University of Akron Library catalog. (Hint: If you do an "advanced search" you can limit your search by "material type" and select "electronic book" to limit your search to ebooks only!)
However, if you haven't found what you need in the UA catalog or if you prefer to use databases directly (which have their own built-in search capabilities), please try the following ebook databases!
Ebook Central is the main location for ebooks in our collection with over 150,000 ebooks readily available for download and online reading. Ebooks are available for all subjects with over 5,000 tagged as education.
Springer Link features many different materials covering all subjects. Make sure to limit to education materials and click "book" on the left side to sort for ebooks. Also, make sure you do not have "preview-only" content turned on.
Safari features ebooks from many disciplines including computer science, information technology, business, and other fields. There are many "how to" style technology books as well.
Open (free!) Textbooks via the Open Textbook Network -- Open textbooks are textbooks that have been funded, published, and licensed to be freely used, adapted, and distributed. These books have been reviewed by faculty from a variety of colleges and universities to assess their quality. These books can be downloaded for no cost, or printed at low cost. All textbooks are either used at multiple higher education institutions; or affiliated with an institution, scholarly society, or professional organization. (OTN)
